INTERESTED IN BECOMING A CERTIFIED REFEREE?

New Referee TrainingInterested in becoming a referee?

The New Grassroots Referee training course is a 16 hour course with most of the time spent online and concluding with a virtual Zoom session.  It is designed to provide entry level referee skills and information through classroom and field training for candidates. Emphasis is on preparing for Grassroots program participation – including recreational and competitive games. Field emphasis is on practice of specific procedures.

Participants must be at least 13 years old at the beginning of the clinic to attend a New Grassroots Referee course. Individuals over the age of 18 will be required to complete the SafeSport certification and successfully pass a background check.

By certifying now, you’ll be eligible for work games this upcoming season.  Referee fees range from $14 to $58 per game depending on players’ age level and position worked.  If you also work recreational soccer games, you’ll be paid $2 more per rec game if you are certified.

The detailed steps required to become a new referee can be found at http://wisref.org/grassroots-new-ref-instructions/

Costs

For a limited time, you can attain your USSF soccer referee certification at NO COST TO YOU!

WisRef & the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Assoc. (WYSA) have partnered in order to encourage players, parents and others to become a New Referee. WYSA is providing reimbursement of registration & course fees and background check fees for New or Lapsed Registration Referees who successfully complete the requirements to become a US Soccer Referee for 2022. In addition, these Referees will receive a $50 uniform kit allowance, redeemable at Stefan’s Soccer (the sooner your complete all the course requirements, the higher likelihood of receiving your kit timely).

What do these two organizations ask in return? We ask that you commit to refereeing all of 2022 and registering again for 2023 at a minimum. We would also hope that you continue in 2024 and beyond.

For more details or if you have questions please feel free to contact local referee assignor Randy Freeh (rafreeh@gmail.com) or State Director of Referee Operations Sue Walter (sue@wisref.org) .  If you love soccer this is a great way to get more time on the field, knowledge of the game, and make money doing it.
